Alcaraz Halts Monfils Surge
Carlos Alcaraz, who recently won the Indian Wells Masters, continued his impressive form at the Miami Open on Monday night. The Spaniard defeated Gael Monfils in straight sets (6-2, 6-4) to advance to the fourth round of the tournament.
A Hard-Fought Victory
Monfils started the match strongly, breaking Alcaraz's serve in the opening game. However, Alcaraz quickly regained his composure and broke back in the next game. From there, the Spaniard took control of the first set, winning four consecutive games to take it 6-2.
The second set was more closely contested. Monfils broke Alcaraz's serve again, but the Spaniard once again fought back. Alcaraz broke Monfils' serve twice in the final four games to win the set 6-4 and seal the match.
Alcaraz will face Frances Tiafoe in the fourth round of the Miami Open. Tiafoe advanced with a straight-sets victory over Taylor Fritz.
