Prince Harry Should Turn Down US Military Gong, Says Ex-Navy Chief

Subheadline: Duke of Sussex Loses Bid to Name Murdoch in Hacking Claim

But Prince Harry Was Granted Permission to Alter His Case to Include Further Details

Prince Harry should turn down a US military gong, a former Navy chief has said. Lord West of Spithead, who was First Sea Lord from 2002 to 2006, said it would be "inappropriate" for the Duke of Sussex to accept the award.

Harry served in the British Army for 10 years, including two tours of duty in Afghanistan. He was awarded the Military Cross for his actions in Afghanistan. In 2018, he was awarded the US Legion of Merit for his work with wounded veterans.

Lord West said that it would be "wrong" for Harry to accept another military award from the US. He said that Harry had already been "rewarded" for his service in Afghanistan by the UK.

"I think it would be inappropriate for him to accept another award from the US," Lord West said. "He's already been rewarded for his service in Afghanistan by the UK."

Harry's decision on whether or not to accept the US award is not yet known. However, his decision is likely to be influenced by the views of Lord West and other senior military figures.
