HSBC's History
HSBC was founded in 1865 as the Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation. The company was originally focused on facilitating trade between China and Europe. Over time, HSBC expanded its operations to other parts of Asia, the Middle East, and North America. In 1992, HSBC acquired the British bank Midland Bank, which gave it a significant presence in Europe. HSBC has continued to expand its global reach through a series of acquisitions, including the purchase of the Brazilian bank Banco Bamerindus in 1998 and the Mexican bank Banamex in 2002.
